2018 graduates of the Mechanical Technician – Precision Skills program at Georgian College each received $1717 in awards and scholarships. To qualify, students had to achieve a 75% average (or higher), and there were 32 in total.

The award came from the Gene Haas foundation, who donated a total of $40, 000 this year and $134, 000 since 2014. To date, they have helped over 100 students.

The cheque was presented to senior staff and faculty July 3 by Dan Ferko, President of Sirco Machinery Co. Ltd., a Canadian Haas Factory Outlet.

“We are committed to helping Georgian College students achieve their goals of pursuing a career in the trades,” said Dan Ferko, President of Sirco Machinery Co. Ltd., a Canadian Haas Factory Outlet. “These awards and scholarships help students achieve success by allowing them to focus on their studies. We are confident they will go on to become the leaders and innovators of the future.”

The Gene Haas Foundation’s mandate is to support and help build the manufacturing workforce by investing in training programs for skilled workers.
