Over 600 community members congregated at Woodbine racetrack June 10 to raise funds for Etobicoke General Hospital (EGH). The event was Osler’s Fourth Annual Walk ‘n Roll Fest which brought in $75,448 for Healthy Families, specifically to help build and equip a new patient tower.

“The community really stepped up to the plate to support health care in Etobicoke,” said Ken Mayhew, President and CEO, William Osler Health System Foundation of the 5 km walk. “Etobicoke General is being transformed and we are very grateful for the help to build and equip the new patient tower. Thank you to everyone who
came out to support their community hospital!”
Participants and volunteers were not only treated to sunny blue skies during the event but also a healthy lunch and entertainment. This included family-friendly bouncy castles, face-painting, a reptile petting zoo, games and a spell-binding magic show.
TO make matters better, Orlando Corporation has pledged to match all monies raised as part of their $15 Million Matching Challenge.
As for the new patient tower; it is now scheduled to open in early 2019, offering greater access to programs and services, like emergency and
women’s and children’s care.
The tower will also feature a new Emergency Department, Critical Care and Intensive Care Units, Maternal Newborn Unit, Ambulatory Procedures Unit, and Cardiorespiratory and Neurodiagnostic services.
BMO Bank of Montreal, Woodbine Entertainment (Venue and Lunch Sponsor), CIBC and Diamondboi Designs sponsored the event.
