If you are like me and very worried about the decreasing bee population, you may ant to attend the the Streetsville Pollinator Showcase Garden. The event features pollinator-friendly gardens, funded by the Scotts Miracle-Gro’s GRO1000 grant, and hosted by the City of Mississauga.

The city was awarded three grants, totaling $18, 000, from Scotts Canada and Communities in Bloom with $15,000 going toward the Streetsville showcase.

This year is also the 150th Anniversary for Scotts Miracle-Gro who, to date, have created over 1,000 community gardens and green spaces through GRO1000.

The pollinator-friendly gardens contain perennial flowers and plants that will attract butterflies, hummingbirds and other pollinators. Pollinators consume nectar while gathering pollen needed for the production of flowers, fruits and vegetables.

Below is a statement issued by Scotts Canada at the time of the grant announcement:

“The last installation of Canadian GRO1000 gardens will happen in Mississauga in spring 2018,” said Karen Stephenson, Director, Regulatory Affairs & Stakeholder Relations at Scotts Canada Limited. “This will coincide with the 150th anniversary of the founding of Scott Miracle-Gro. We thought it would be fitting to celebrate the last of the Canadian GRO1000 gardens in Mississauga, where our Canadian headquarters is based.”

The May 29th showcase features community booths with activities for the entire family to engage in.
