For those of you who haven’t already seen or heard about her yet, I wanted to introduce you to celebrity makeup artist, Tracy Peart. Not only is Tracy an institution at two of the nations biggest morning shows, Breakfast Television Toronto (BT) and CityLine but she is also a multifaceted entrepreneur. It didn’t take long for Tracy’s talents to get noticed after starting at BT in 2007 as, within a year of being hired, she was hand picked to be the exclusive make up artist of the show’s host, Dina Pugliese. The team at CityLine did the exact same thing, due to Tracy’s undeniable talents as a make up artist, with host Tracy Moore also signing with her exclusively. Having known her personally for a number of years, I can tell you that industry insiders don’t come any humbler, which makes her career a testament that nice guys DON’T finish last. Far from it. Seneca College educated, Tracy, has not only gone from strength to strength in her own right, but also launched several ventures from her platform, and with the support of her peers. Among these are her on-air gig as makeup beauty expert and consultant on CityLine; where you can catch her either contributing to a live panel or offering expert make up tips and advice for women of all shapes, colours, and sizes!
Tracy is also the founder of the Pretty Professional brand, which offers a unique service to women in the workforce (see below), and has launched the MAKEUP iQ APP on iTunes. See what I mean when I say that Tracy is a multifaceted entrepreneur? I got to sit down with Tracy, recently, to find out more about everything that she is doing:
SO, TRACY, NOT ONLY ARE YOU A CELEBRITY MAKE UP ARTIST AND RENOWNED EXPERT ON NATIONAL TELEVISION, BUT YOU ALSO HAVE AN iPHONE APP?
Yeah, its an iPhone App that I developed when I was working at another station on a tech show as I firmly believe that wherever you are you have to be learning something and getting something out of your experiences. I thought how can I bring glamour to the tech show – so I just started to pay attention and listen to what they were talking about. And one time a woman came in and started talking about iPhone apps and how popular they were, and how regular people – not experts – were developing iPhone apps. After making contacts at that particular show and listening I decided that I was going to develope an iPhone app. I did a lot of research and found that people were playing a lot of games, so developed a game which throws out make up questions called MAKEUP iQ. In a nutshell, the more answers you get right, the more you get to dress up your model. Even if you get the answer wrong – the right answer appears so you’re always learning something.
BEING A CELEBRITY MAKE UP ARTIST MEANS THAT YOUR WORK IS ALWAYS ON DISPLAY – AND FOR THE MASSES – IS THAT SOMETHING YOU HAD TO GET USED TO INITIALLY?
It did take a while to get used to because the nature of what we do as make up artists means that we’re behind the scenes. We’re not used to being seen. So, yeah, when you’re put in the spotlight you have to pay attention to the things you say, the products you promote, the make up tips that you give, as well as your own image.
NOW, WE ALL KNOW THAT YOU LOVE WORKING WITH TRACY MOORE AND DINA PUGLIESE, BUT I GOTTA ASK…WHO’S YOUR FAVOURITE??
I can’t possibly choose because they’re both equally responsible for me being in the position I’m in. And they both equally support me, both personally and professionally.
BEING NO STRANGER TO CREATIVITY AND ENTREPRENEURSHIP, I GOTTA ASK…ARE ANY OTHER AVENUES DOWN WHICH YOUR PASSION AND PERSONALITY MIGHT TAKE YOU?
I get asked all the time if I do private lessons, so I developed a company called Pretty Professional where I teach seminars on how to do make up for the office. I will actually come to your work place and conduct the seminar for you and your co-workers. Moving forward within the next year or so, I would like to pursue a radio show as well…I may even start with a pod cast on iTunes!
LASTLY, SOCIAL MEDIA…WHAT DOES IT DO FOR YOU?
Film is a passion of time, before I became a make up artist I studied Film and Television and wanted to be a director. So film is a definite passion of mine, and what social media does for me is it allows me to connect with people and exchange ideas and thoughts. So, basically not only do I like exchanging make up tips but another passion of mine is film so I love to give movie reviews and just share my thoughts on films.
