In (what I saw as) yet another carefully crafted attempt at humility; the very serious, very professional break out star known as Iggy Azalea made the following statement to GQ magazine:

“If I have a very long career and can be gyrating in a leotard at 35, that would be great. You never know how long you’ll be in people’s good graces, especially in this business. I hope it’s long — but I could be here for three or four years and then be out, like most artists”

This statement got the wheels spinning for me, personally, because not only do I have spin radar, otherwise known as “spin-dar”…but I CANNOT think of too many successful female artists who fell off the ra-dar after a few years. I’m not trying to DISPROVE her THEORY…but I do want to put it to the test with you!

I would love to know what you think about her statement: Do the majority of female Hip Hop stars disappear after just a few years? Let me get this party started by listing five Hip Hop divas, and their discographies to boot, who have been around for well over half a decade:

1) Alicia Keys (2001 – Present)

2) Nicki Minaj (2010 – Present)

3) Queen Latifah (1989 – Present…and lets not forget her Talk Show and CoverGirl contract!)

4) Mary J. Blige (1992 – Present)

5) Eve (1999 – Present)

Oh yeah, and lets not forget…

RIHANNA (2005 – Present)

and need we remind you of the extra-terrestrial phenomenon, known as

BEYONCE aka Queen B (2003 – Present…and that’s just her solo career!)

Hey, don’t get me wrong. I like Iggy Azalea’s new album and think she is beautiful…she already has a modelling contract and clothing line…so, she’ll probably do ok in the end.  It’s all down to her talent and longevity…just don’t blame the industry, darling!
